If you’re interested in Japan, you’ve probably seen a Japanese-style painting of Mt. Fuji at least once and been charmed by its beauty. Adachi Museum in Shimane Prefecture is a Nihonga (Japanese painting) lover’s dream. The museum possesses a collection of paintings and artifacts that are indispensable witnesses to the growth and development of the Nihonga genre. Included in this massive collection are about 120 large scale masterpieces by Nihonga master Taikan Yokoyama that depict the beauty of Japan. Only 20 of these pieces will be on display at any given time for public viewing in the special exhibition room. Additionally, it boasts a 50,000 tsubo (roughly 165,289m2) Japanese garden on the premises, which has remained the top-ranked Japanese garden in Japan for 16 consecutive years in a popular gardening journal, The Journal of Japanese Gardening. Within the building itself, there is a tea house “Juraku-an”, where you can enjoy tea in an elegant space. The matcha tea here is brewed in a pure gold teapot which is said to “invite fortune” and “prolong life”.
