1 Izumo Grand Shrine & Izumo Soba

Izumo Grand Shrine

Dedicated to the god Okuninushi, which is famous as the Shinto god of marriage

How to get there:
About 25 minutes by bus from JR Izumoshi Station

Izumo Soba

The buckwheat is milled without removing the husk, which gives the noodles their characteristic deep colour and fragrant aroma. One of Japan’s three best soba noodle varieties.

2 Tomonoura & Onomichi Ramen

Tomonoura

Located on the Seto Inland Sea, this port served as the setting for the animated film ‘Ponyo’, and used to be a flourishing industrial city during the Edo period.

How to get there:
About 30 minutes by bus from JR Fukushima Station

Onomichi Ramen

The dashi (soup stock) that is made using chicken bones and small fish from the Seto Inland Sea is transformed into clear soy sauce base, which is topped with fatback.

3 Itsukushima Shrine & Okonomiyaki

Itsukushima Shrine

Located on the island of Itsukushima (better known as Miyajima) in Hiroshima Prefecture, this shrine is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its torii gate that stands in the middle of the sea.

How to get there:
About 10 minutes by ferry to Miyajima Pier from JR Miyajimaguchi Station

Okonomiyaki

The okonomiyaki in Hiroshima is characterized by a thin layer of batter which is topped with thick layers of ingredients and noodles.

4 Dogo Onsen & Orange Juice from the Tap

Dogo Onsen

Reputed to be the oldest hot spring in Japan with 3,000 years of history. Make sure to also explore the quaint streets of Dogo Onsen.

How to get there:
About 25 minutes by tram and foot from JR Matsuyama Station

Orange Juice From the Tap

Matsuyama Airport is home to the Orange Bar, where customers can get orange juice straight from the tap.

5 Ritsurin Park & Sanuki Udon

Ritsurin Park

Takes a whole hour to walk around it and is the largest park in Japan. Discover the unique beauty of the park in each of the four seasons.

How to get there:
About 20 minutes by car from JR Takamatsu Station

Sanuki Udon

Well-known for having a large variety in noodle firmness and serving method, Sanuki Udon is the specialty udon of Kagawa Prefecture.

6 Bitchu Matsuyama Castle & Okayama Peaches

Bitchu Matsuyama Castle

The only castle in Japan that still retains its original towers in the mountains. You can even see the castle floating in a sea of clouds early in the morning from October to December.

How to get there:
About 10 minutes by car from JR Bitchu-Takahashi Station, followed by another 10 minutes by bus. Then, about 20 minutes walk from the bus stop

The second largest island in the Seto Inland Sea which is connected to three other small islands by the Angel Road which appears during low tide.

35-60 minutes by ferry from Takamatsu Port

8 Naruto Whirlpools

Naruto Whirlpools

A natural phenomenon created by the powerful currents as a result of the difference in water levels between the Seto Inland Sea and the Kii Channel. The whirlpools can reach up to 20m in diameter in spring and autumn.

How to get there:
20 minutes by bus from Naruto Station. Alight at the Naruto Kanko-ko stop
