Bansuisou

Bansuisou is a historical building in Matsuyama, a city in the Ehime-ken prefecture. The villa is an example of ‘Yokan’, Western-style buildings inspired by French Renaissance architecture. The villa was built in 1922, during the Taisho Period, and the romantic and vintage ‘Taisho Roman’ stylings of that era can be seen in the beautiful stained glass windows.

In the past, Bansuisou was an exclusive meeting place for aristocrats and nobility. Today, the building is used as an event and exhibition hall, but still retains its luxurious feel. You can explore the first floor for free, but if that’s not enough, entrance to the second floor costs just 300 yen. What’s more, the villa holds many seasonal exhibitions throughout the year, so you’ll be able to make the most of your time during your visit.
