Bihoku Hillside Park

Bihoku Hillside Park is the 11th national park of Japan, located in Hiroshima. It is also the first and the only national park in the Chugoku region. Here, you can enjoy seasonal flowers that bloom from spring to fall. In wintertime, the park is beautifully lit in the evenings – perfect for a leisurely stroll. If there’s children tagging along on your trip, there’s a playground here for the young ones to enjoy too.

My favorite time of the year to visit is in Spring, as the annual springtime festival runs from mid April to mid May. During this season, around 180,000 Iceland poppies blossom and cover the entire park grounds. It’s a spectacular sight you won’t want to miss! The colorful orange, white, and yellow petals are bathed in sunlight as they sway in the wind, which really makes it feel like spring is in the air.

You can also check out the “Hibano Sato” area inside the park to have a taste of countryside life experiences in Japan.
