Gion Kyo Cuisine Hanasaki

Shunchan

Dec 8, 2016

If you want to enjoy a nice, peaceful Japanese meal away from the bustle of Gion, Gion Kyouryouri Hanasaki is the place for you. Plus, the food here is amazing.

Upon entering, you’ll find counter or table seats – both offer different dining experience. If you sit at the counter, you’ll be facing the chef, allowing you to appreciate the skillful culinary master at work. On the other hand, table seats face the courtyard so you can enjoy the scenery as you dine.

During my visit, I ordered the kaiseki (around 5,000 yen), a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner, and it came with a variety of delicious dishes, like vegetables, fish and meat – all plated beautifully.

Most of the ingredients used in the restaurant are seasonal. If you visit the restaurant during summer or autumn, order the pike eel (Hamo). It has a taste similar to white fish – very light.

You can also arrange for a Geisha to join you during your meal. Have a nice chat or play simple drinking games with them, called ‘Ozashiki-Asobi’. Now wouldn't that be a truly Japanese experience?
