Hakuichi Cafe/Gold Foil Soft Cream

Kanazawa has always been known for its production of Kinpaku, or gold leaf in Japanese. Naturally, you’ll be able to find an array of gold leaf specialty items here that you won’t be able to find elsewhere.

One such specialty is the Kinpaku Soft Ice Cream, a luxurious local dessert consisting of rich vanilla ice cream coated in a sheet of gold. This ice cream is available in several cafés and shops in Kanazawa, but Hakuichi Café is probably the most popular of the lot, based on gourmet reviews and word-of-mouth.

You won’t be able to taste the gold leaf in the ice cream, but just looking at this lavish gold-covered treat is enough to make you feel like royalty. This luxurious dessert will set you back about 891 yen, so don’t take too many pictures — letting it melt and drip to the floor is not an option.
