Himeji Castle

Suria

Mar 9, 2017

It was a rainy day when I visited Himeji Castle. I figured if there is only time to visit one castle, I would go for the largest and grandest and this is it. Nothing beats being here seeing it for myself. The photos I have seen of it does not do it justice. Even though it was raining, there were many visitors and it does not diminish this formidable sight. Beautiful, elegant and just breathtaking, I think this is one of the places you must visit if you are here.

This castle is a national treasure and a UNESCO world heritage site. I love visiting historical sites. It amazes me how they could build something like this during their times. Do not only just walk around outside but also take a tour inside the castle too. There are narrow steps to get to the top of the castle which houses a small shrine. You can also see some of the stone drop windows used for the castle’s defense while walking up.

I dropped by the west bailey too which served as the residence of a princess. There is a display regarding the story of the princess and also some information about the materials used to build the castle.

So, get lost in the grandeur and the beauty of this castle and come here to see it for yourself. You can take a bus for 100 yen which is just about 5 mins ride away or save the money and walk over from Himeji Station which will take you around 20 minutes.
