Out to Iga Ueno, Mie Prefecture to visit the birthplace and childhood home of master haiku poet Matsuo Basho. When arrived at tourist office in Ueno-shi, I clearly inquired for Bashos birthhouse, but the woman at the office seemed not to understand. As you can see Iga is very famous for Ninjas- it's a place worth to visit for fans of ninja movies.. and she, that woman didn't expect me to see anything else but the Ninjas.. ;-)
After some trials and explanation we both bursted out laughing and she guided me the way..
Iga is very quiet and lovely.. so it's a nice change in speed compared to central Osaka or Kyoto.
Bashos house is beautiful, simple yet peaceful .. the persimmon tree in the backyard, the small pond, the old terracotta water jar..
Now, where I have been here.. to his lovely garden with a little cottage.. I can relive why he was able to find so much contemplation and inspiration for all his haikus, which are.. so rich- in- Zen!
