Japan Monkey Center

If there’s one thing worth going bananas for in Nagoya, it’s the Japan Monkey Centre! I’m proud of the fact that this place has the largest number of non-human primate species—from pygmy marmosets to gorillas and more. My fondest memory of this place was watching the Japanese Yaku-macaques warming themselves by a bonfire during winter. It was such a sight to be able to witness the charming characteristic of this species.

Besides viewing the 60 different species and over 900 primates, there are exhibitions, guided tours and museum activities your whole family can enjoy too. There are a lot of sections you can look around with interests, such as Wao Land where you can observe the Lemur catta very closely, Monkey Scramble where you can observe monkeys coming and going overhead freely, and Gibbon House where a gibbon ape-like an acrobat can get fun. In winter, you might find the rare "monkey in a bonfire".

Entrance fee is about 600 yen for high school students, about 400 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and about 300 yen for kids over 3 years old.
