Kakunodate Cherry Blossom Festival

Akita prefecture is only 3 hours away from Tokyo via shinkansen, which makes it an extremely wonderful day trip if one is down for cherry blossom viewing.

The rows of cherry blossom trees in full bloom along the Hinokinai river is a spectacular sight. Old and preserved traditional samurai houses in Kakunodate amidst the cherry blossom trees.
