KANDACHIME HORSES AT CAPE SHIRIYA

Tjeannee

Mar 13, 2017

The scenic Cape Shiriya lies at the northeastern tip of Honshu, with dark rocks and cliffs. The iconic Shiriyazaki lighthouse, built in 1876, is also historic and picturesque, but the real attraction is the wild horses or Kandachime, literally meaning ‘to stand in the cold’. They are called that as these horses can endure the severe winters of Aomori.
