Kikuyo Shokudo Honten

Seafood is a top priority for me when I visit Hakodate! I highly recommend the Kikuyo Shokudo restaurant at the Hakodate morning market to taste the freshness of the sea.

Delivered straight from the port, the seafood is incredibly fresh. I especially love the Bamboo Don (1,680 yen), a luxurious rice bowl filled with fresh scallop, salmon roe and sea urchin! So delicious! Here’s a tip: The sea urchin and salmon roe are naturally a little salty, so you might want to go easy on the soy sauce.

There's no English menu here, which makes ordering food a challenge for non-Japanese speaking visitors. To place your order, simply point to the dishes that other customers are eating. Or you can search for pictures online beforehand and show them to the waitstaff when you arrive!
