Kinkaku-ji

If you ever decide to go to Kyoto, do not miss out on visiting the Kinkakuji Temple. It is one of the most iconic and popular places in Japan. Although I had seen many pictures of the Golden Pavilion even before visiting it, I was still awestruck when I saw the actual place for myself. The gold on the temple looked almost palish yellow, and the lake it was sitting on was absolutely immaculate. The lake looked so bluish green it was hard to believe I wasn't actually staring into a mirror. I honestly enjoyed looking at the entire stretch of lake the most while strolling along Kinkakuji.

At the end of the stroll, I passed by a small shop selling clothes, keychains and other souvenirs. If you are looking to buy a chasen (bamboo whisk), do check out the store. It retails at a much cheaper price than other shops in Japan. I also couldn't resist leaving the place without getting myself a Golden Pavilion keychain.

All in all, I highly recommend you to make a stop at Kinkakuji if you are in Kyoto if you love sightseeing. If you do go in Winter, you might be lucky enough to witness the Golden Pavilion covered in white.
