The best way to enjoy the scenic delights of Kurobe Gorge is to take the open air sightseeing trains of Kurobe Gorge Railway on an 80-minute one-way ride into its forested ravine. Once on board, you will be able to sample the Gorge’s beauty whichever the season - from burgeoning greenery in Spring, through clear flowing streams in Summer to the colored leaves of Autumn. The train journeys across bridges and through tunnels offer visitors a panoramic view of the gorge below.

Famous attractions along the way include Atobiki (or ‘Back Away’) bridge (60 meters over Kuronagi river and spanning sheer cliffs that make mountaineers ‘back away’); the ‘hidden’ Kanetsuri Hot Spring (found only if you dig beneath a certain depth on the banks of Kurobe River); and Kinshukan, a renowned spot for viewing the colored leaves of Autumn.

Rides cost 3,420 yen per adult and operation hours differ according to the seasons. So check the website and make reservations to avoid disappointment.
