Kyoto Aquarium

Yuji

Dec 8, 2016

Opened in March 2012, Kyoto Aquarium is the first aquarium in Japan to use completely artificial seawater.

Located in Umekoji Park, the aquarium is just a short fifteen-minute walk from the JR Kyoto Station.

Each of the nine zones in the two-story facility has various themes, exhibiting a variety of aquatic animals. As well as the fish, you’ll find that there are about 15,000 marine animals of around 250 different species, including spotted seals and African penguin. Various events and performances are also organised here, including a dolphin show that changes daily. Children will especially love these, as well as a dolphin zone where they will be able to interact with the cute mammals.

The aquarium is also dedicated to the conservation of rare and endangered speicies, through a breeding program. Discover the fascinating world of life underwater and get up close with all the different marine creatures!
