Lake Chuzenji

Lake Chuzenji is a beautiful and scenic attraction located in the Nikko National Park. This lake was formed nearly 20,000 years ago when the sacred volcano Mount Nantai erupted and lava flows blocked the valley beneath it.

The lake is a source of a number of waterfalls in the area; Kegon Falls is one of the more well-known. While most parts of the Chuzenji shore is undeveloped, there is a small onsen (hot spring) village near the site of Kegon Falls to attract visitors. I'd also recommend you to go for a spin along the road near the the lake. Feeling the wind against your skin while taking in the scenery is especially therapeutic!

Whether you choose to visit Lake Chuzenji during the autumn, when the red maple trees around it are reflected on its surface, or during the summer when you can enjoy some natural shaved ice (750 yen) from a nearby cafe, Coffee Shop Spoon, while admiring the beautiful scenery.

I know you won't be disappointed by the views of Lake Chuzenji!
