Megane Bridge is the oldest stone bridge in Japan and has been officially named a national cultural icon (Important Cultural Property).
If you look closely, the bridge’s reflection on the water’s surface looks like a pair of glasses. That’s how its nickname, ‘Glasses Bridge’, came about.
It may not look like it, but the arch of the bridge felt really steep when I was there! I wonder how people in the past pushed heavy objects across the bridge.
