Mount Chokai

Feb 3, 2017

Is there a mountain that can come close to the beauty of Mount Fuji? Mount Chokai, which lies across Akita and Yamagata prefectures, is called Akita Fuji or Dewa Fuji, meaning as beautiful as Mount Fuji. It has been chosen as one of the top 100 mountains and sceneries in Japan.

Mount Chokai has an altitude of 2,236 meters and is the second highest mountain in Northeastern Tohoku. If you’re a climbing novice, you’ve got nothing to worry about as long as you come fully equipped. A leisurely hike will take you 10 hours or eight if you are fast. A day trip is all you need to complete this hike!

Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded by spectacular views. So if you are looking for a way to recharge or simply to get away from the bustle of the city, I highly recommend planning a hike up Mount Chokai. Your body and mind will thank you.
