Mount Fuji (富士山, Fujisan) is Japan's highest mountain with 3776 meters in height. The active volcano stands on the border between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures.
Mount Fuji is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains" (三霊山 Sanreizan) along with Mount Tate and Mount Haku. It is a frequent subject of Japanese art. People had been visited the sacred mountain from long time ago.
Best time to climb the mountain is between July and August during summer. Best season to enjoy spring season is between April to May when there is a shibazakura festival. Autumn is beautiful with the colorful leaves. In winter it will be cold and snowing.
Easiest way to travel from Tokyo to the area is by riding Keio Bus from Shinjuku for about 2 to 2.5 hours. Visitors could alight at FujiQ Highland or Kawaguchi Station. If you want to go by train, take a JR Limited Express train (Azusa or Kaiji) from Shinjuku Station to Otsuki and transfer to the Fujikyuko Railway for Kawaguchiko bound. JR Chuo Special Rapid Service is cheaper than express train.
Another easy way to view the mountain is from a shinkansen trip between Tokyo and Osaka precisely about 40-45 minutes into the journey from the right hand of the train when it is approaching Shin-Fuji Station.
Mount Fuji's exceptionally symmetrical cone could be be viewed from airplane before landing in Tokyo which i saw during my flight! Best to views could be seen from Chureito Pagoda, Owakudani, and Lake Kawaguchi!
A trip to Japan is not complete without visiting Fujisan!
There is something for everyone! You can shop and dine while enjoy onsen and sightseeing there.
