Located in Yoshino-Kumano National Park, which spans three prefectures (Mie, Nara and Wakayama prefectures), Mount Odaigahara sits in Yoshino district in Nara prefecture. It is considered Japan’s leading virgin forests, with an annual rainfall of 5,000mm – one of the world’s highest!

The mountain has also been specially designated as one of the 100 Landscapes of Japan – and fittingly so. There’s a well-paved trail, which makes hiking the mountain easier. While you are on your way up, do take time to marvel at the breathtaking scenery. So it is said to be the secret of Kansai (west side of Japan).
On sunny days, you may even see Mount Fuji from Odaigahara’s summit! Surrounded by lush nature, I really enjoyed the hike.
