Sannai-Maruyama Site, Aomori

The Sannai-Maruyama archaeological site is an amazing record of the Jomon people, a hunter-gatherer culture that existed in Japan from 14,000 - 300 BCE.
You can visit recreations of their homes and gathering halls, and watching technicians reassembling pottery pieces in an open lab. There's a cafeteria where you can eat dishes that the Jomon people might have cooked and eaten.
