Sarutobikyo

If there was one area that best represents the Kurobe Gorge, it’s Sarutabikyo. The most narrow part of the Kurobe river, its name was derived from the folktale of an ape which leapt across it. On foot, it takes about 20 minutes to get from Keyakidairaeki Station to Sarutobikyo. Located deep in the forest, the walk is a relatively breezy one and the beautiful view of Sarutobikyo is what awaits you at the end of it. For its sheer scale and magnificence, this scenic spot has been designated a natural monument.

Wondering when’s the best time to visit? Try Autumn, from October and November, when the leaves start turning red and the weather is just right. To soothe those tired legs, get a food bath for free and visit the hot spring for only 700 yen.
