It's not news in Japan where you get to see self-service kiosk selling local produce, especially in rural area, where you spontaneously drop the money into a collection box and take your purchase, it's a mutual trust between buyers and sellers in the spirit of honest trading.
Recently, there's a sensation in Sapporo where you get to see Shiba dog selling sweet potatoes! Honestly, although its presence did little to enhance the process, but it certainly stimulates sales! It is understood that the sweet potatoes sell fast, and for 100 Yen each, the price is reasonable (even though the owner had only recently double its price from 50 Yen). The 3 year-old dog's name is Ken-kun, and what's more adorable is that there's a plaque stating "I can't give change because I'm a dog"! So, whatever excess income will be considered as tips for Ken-kun towards its titbits fund. Ken-kun typically works between 12.30pm to 3pm on weekday, and like almost any employee, it rests on weekends too!
