Shimogamo Shrine

About a 15-minute drive away from Keihan Sanjo Station, Shimogamo Shrine is one of the oldest and most important Shinto shrines in Kyoto, and has been registered as a World Heritage Site.

The shrine consists of several sub-shrines called Koto-sha, where you can pray to the God of Zodiac, as well as the God of Marriage, which also happens to be enshrined here at Shimogamo.

Currently, some parts of the shrine are being renovated, but you can still enjoy the spacious and tranquil grounds of the shrine. If you’re planning to visit, do prepare 500 yen for the general admission fee.

If you’re looking for a place to rest your feet after walking around, drop by the Kamo Mitarashi teahouse nearby.
