Shin-Hotaka Ropeway

The Shin-Hotaka Ropeway is one of Japan's most unique ropeways that takes you 1000 meters up the side of the Hotake Mountain Range which includes Oku-Hotakedake, Japan's third highest peak. Half the fun is making your way there, which starts at the Takayama Bus Terminal and a ride out to the mountains, followed by a double decker gondola car (the first of their kind in Japan, I believe!) ...and you can even stop at Hirayu Onsen on the bus ride back! The trip may take up almost a day, but is well worth the effort... the panoramic views are breathtaking!
