If you are a history buff, you would not want to miss out on Shiroishi Castle in Masuoka Park. Located in the central area of Shiroishi city, it is a hirayamashiro-style castle, renowned for its defensive solidity during the Edo era.

For about 260 years, from the Battle of Sekigahara to the Meiji Restoration, the Shiroishi Castle served as the residence of the Kataoka clan, who were the hereditary retainers of the Date clan.

Be impressed by its intricate wooden carvings and feel the warmth and scent of Japanese cypress, its principal building material. A must-see if you want to feel the pulse of Japanese history.
