Ever heard of Station 4.5? It is near Mt. Fuji's 5th Station.
Mount Fuji's 5th Station is the most famous tourist destination even during the non-climbing season at Mount Fuji. With our local guide challenging our hiking spirit despite the cold autumn breeze, he suggested a short hike up Mt. Fuji instead of the usual and crowded 5th Station destination for souvenir shopping and food eats. It was the closest we could get to hike the mountain during the non-climbing season so everyone agreed. We were happy to find ourselves to be the only people in the station. It was a short hike indeed but with the strong winds, you'll already have an idea why climbing season has to be during summer.
The hike up could still be a challenge to some especially because of the weather but I still consider it to be at the beginners level. Our guide already cautioned us to be very careful of our steps as the gravel like stones at our feet are actually hardened lava and causes the ground to be slippery.
As we climb up, the strong winds got stronger. Someone's cap was unfortunately blown away while we struggled to stand straight for a photoshoot. We successfully descended without further incident aside from sudden running noses. It was an excellent pre-climbing experience, if I may say so.
The photos shows how it looks like during autumn and I wonder how it looks like during summer. I must see how it is transformed by the season. Watch a video
