Tin Toy Museum

Shunchan

Dec 8, 2016

Located near a cemetery and several old churches, this quirky small museum is the home of almost 3000 tin toys that were manufactured in Japan from the 1890's to the 1960's, all of them part of the personal collection of director Kitahara. The Yokohama Museum of Tin Toys attracts not only children, but also adults like myself. The museum brings back many childhood memories as I look through the archives. I always leave feeling nostalgic!

Although the museum is open daily throughout the year, I think the best time to be there is during Christmas. There will be special Christmas toys available in the shops and the whole neighborhood will be decorated, warming you up during the cold winter.

Entrance fee is about 200 yen for adults, 100 yen for Elementary/Junior high school students.
