Tobe-yaki Pottery Museum

Shigeki Naganuma

Feb 6, 2018

The Tobe-yaki Togeikan is a pottery museum in Ehime dedicated to Tobe-yaki, the traditional art of ceramics and pottery from the Tobe region. Here, you’ll be able to make your own pottery and take them home as souvenirs. To get an idea of how Tobe-yaki is made, you can check out this video: https://youtu.be/-8uKF5PxPjo

For 3500 yen, you can make two pottery ware items such as a rice bowl and a mug. If you want to try ceramic painting instead, it costs 780 yen for a Japanese tea cup, and 1100 yen for a mug. Depending on the season, there will also be other craft making options available.

Besides pottery workshops, the museum also offers an incredible range of pottery available for purchase. They also have a section that features crafts from the local artists of Ehime, so if you’re a fan of art, I highly recommend a visit. The museum is a 30-minute car ride from central Takamatsu City. You can also get there by taking the Tobe-bound bus from Matsuyama-shi Station, and alighting at Toritani-guchi.
