Yagisaki Park, Lake Kawaguchiko - Mount Fuji
Lake Kawaguchiko is one of the 5 lakes at the base of Mount Fuji. Upon arrival at Haneda Airport, we booked our bus ticket for the Airport Express Bus straight to Mount Fuji at the cost of 2470 yen (This was back in 2015 though). The bus ride took us about 2 hours. It was spacious and very comfortable. The bus went around the city to pick up some passengers. Almost 30 minutes before we reached our main destination, Mount Fuji was already majestically welcoming us. Thus, it is best to sleep on the first hour of the bus ride and stay awake on the last hour or better yet just stay awake and enjoy the view of the city and the country side.
The best way to enjoy Lake Kawaguchiko is to jog in the morning along one of its walking trails at Yagisaki Park. It was a chilly autumn morning but it was all worth it. The view was unexpectedly breathtaking. The autumn leaves made it look like we were walking in a painting but with the fresh breeze of air, we knew it's real. We also met friendly locals jogging and fishing. Aside from that climb to Mount Fuji summit, it is now a must for me to jog along that walking trail again when I go back.
Our backpacking hostel (K's House) was just a few minutes walk away (5 to 10mins) from Lake Kawaguchiko so it was very convenient.
While at Mount Fuji area, you can also visit the Sengen Shrine, Shiraito Falls, Aokigahara Forest also known as the "Sea of Trees" or others call it the "Lava forest" with its wind cave and the other lakes if you have the time. If you're interested, you can also include Station 4.5 aside from the usual Station 5.
