Yūtoku Inari Shrine

Jul 13, 2017

In recent years, Kashima City’s Yutoku Inari Shrine in Saga Prefecture is quickly becoming a tourist hotspot. The Thai film “Timeline” (2014) and the Thai drama “Kol Kimono” (2015) were shot there, and that garnered a lot of attention and buzz for the attraction.

Located in the middle of the mountains, the magnificent crimson-red main hall offers a gorgeous sight, evoking the mystical world imagined in the Studio Ghibli film “Spirited Away”. One can’t help but let out a wistful sigh at the subtle beauty of the shrine amidst the greenery.

If you still have the energy, you should climb up to see the Okunoin shrine hall located behind the main hall of the shrine. As the path to the hall is a slope, you should be more careful if you’re walking on a rainy day. After a 20-minute walk, you’ll reach an observation deck where you’ll be rewarded with the spectacular view of the Ariake Sea right before your very eyes. Remember to take a good photograph!

You can use the path at the side of the observation deck to descend from the shrine. Once you’ve left the shrine, don’t forget to check out the charming gift shops lined up along the shopping district. During the spring, you’ll also get to enjoy another visual treat: a bountiful, almost endless array of cherry blossoms.
