9:30 Kagoshima-Chuo Station

About 45 min

10:15 Kareigawa Station

The oldest wooden-building station in the prefecture (opened in 1903). It is unmanned but here you can catch the Limited Express "Hayato no Kaze" four times a day, and combine some sightseeing with a touch of railroad nostalgia.

About 25 min

The water from the upstream hot springs feeds this unusual waterfall that is even more mystical when it is lit up in the evening and when its waters become steamy in the winter.

About 10 min

11:20 Kirishima-jingu Shrine

Whether it is peace for the nation or a single household’s prosperity, the Kirishima-jingu Shrine has been listening to people’s prayers for centuries. Surrounded by a gorgeous forest, it is worth visiting both for the vermilion-lacquered majestic building but also for the cherry trees in spring and the red and yellow leaves in autumn.

About 10 min

12:30 Michi-no-eki Kirishima

This roadside station has a spacious restaurant with a rich menu featuring Kagoshima’s famous Kurobuta brand pork. Thanks to the altitude, if the weather is clear, you can enjoy your meal with a view of the symbol of Kagoshima, the Sakurajima Volcano.

About 40 min

14:15 Kirishima Open-Air Museum

An open-air plastic arts’ museum with works from dozens of artists from Japan and abroad. Enjoy the imaginative shapes of the creations as they blend with the grand surrounding scenery.

About 30 min

16:00 Kirishima Kogen Resort Mahoroba-no-Sato

At the "Glass Hall" found in the enormous premises, you can examine from up close (and buy!) Kagoshima’s famous local craft, the "Satsuma Kiriko" cut glass, and other glass creations. Or, you can try your hand at making glass – a great memory of your trip!

About 20 min

17:30 Sakura Sakura Hot Springs

Facemasks created from the spring’s mud are particularly popular among Japanese women. Its effect is considerable enough to have given it the nickname "hot spring of beauty"! And it is not just good for the skin. Surrounded by lush nature, this onsen will treat your mind as well as your body.
