The Japanese garden on the premises of the Adachi Museum of Art in Shimane Prefecture has remained the top-ranked Japanese garden in Japan for 16 consecutive years in a popular American gardening journal, The Journal of Japanese Gardening.
Famous internationally, it is also the only site in the San'in Region which has received 3 stars from the French "Michelin Green Guide Japon". The garden is spectacular in all seasons. In spring and summer, it comes alive with lush greenery; while autumn foliage brings out its charms and winter brings out a more zen-like beautiful landscape around the area. When viewed from within the museum building, you might even mistake the exquisite scenery for one of the museum’s display pieces.
Within the museum building, there is a tea house “Juraku-an”, where you can enjoy tea while seated on a comfortable chair seat. Here, matcha is brewed with water boiled in a tea kettle made of pure gold which is said to bring good luck and longevity. While sipping your tea, take some time to admire the two "Living Hanging Scrolls" - vertical rectangular windows that frame the beautiful garden scenery outside perfectly, a fantastic complement to the moment.
You can also enjoy views of the Karesansui garden (the Dry Landscape garden) from tearoom "Midori" or admire the pond garden while relaxing in another tearoom "Taikan", which is surrounded by the pond itself.

How to get there :From Shin-Osaka Station, it takes about 40 minutes by the Sanyo Shinkansen to JR Okayama Station. Then, from Okayama Station, take the Limited Express Yakumo on the JR Hakubi Line and alight at JR Yasugi Station after approximately 2 hours & 30 minutes. From there, there are 2 free shuttles buses per hour to the museum. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes.
