Life in Edo | Russel Wong in Kyoto — Special Exhibition

Events,[SJ55] Japanese Cultural Experience

Purchase Asian Civilisation Museum's Singapore Rediscover's Voucher (SRV) packages from now till 19 September 2021 to enjoy full admission to ACM's special exhibition, Life in Edo | Russel Wong in Kyoto, permanent galleries, plus, discounts and a gift redemption from ACM MUSEUM LABEL shop.

Life in Edo | Russel Wong in Kyoto takes visitors to two popular cities – Edo, today’s Tokyo, and Kyoto, the old imperial capital. The double-bill exhibition consists of two sections. The first, Life in Edo, showcases the largest display of woodblock prints (also known as “ukiyo-e”) in Singapore, by famous ukiyo-e masters like Utagawa Hiroshige, Katsushika Hokusai and Kitagawa Utamaro. While historical, these prints present surprisingly modern lifestyles and fascinating trends of Edo-period Japan including famous sights, food, festivals, fashion, and pets. These are juxtaposed with the second section, Russel Wong in Kyoto. In this section, Singaporean photographer Russel Wong presents - for the first time - photographs of his 13-year-long, ongoing personal project. Explore the beauty and architecture of present-day Kyoto, including rare views into the lives of the geiko and maiko community.
