Itineraries A 3-DAY TOUR OF TOHOKU by JNTO on 11 August 2020

Go off the beaten path and commute via train for a 3-day exploration of Iwate and Aomori prefectures. Discover activities that are not commonly known and bring a piece of Tohoku back with you.
Day 1
AM

 

Arrive at JR Ichinoseki Station from Tokyo (approx. 2.5 hrs) Visit Chusonji Temple
Take the JR Tohoku Line for Morioka from Ichinoseki Station to Hiraizumi Station (approx. 7 mins), walk for about 15 mins to reach the temple.

Lunch at a local Japanese soba restaurant Visit Genbikei River Gorge
Take the JR Tohoku Line for Ichinoseki from Hiraizumi Station to Ichinoseki Station, transfer to a bus to Genbikei (approx. 30 mins).
Have tea with the famous ‘Flying Dumpling’ at Kakkoya, Genbikei River Gorge Stay at Morioka, Iwate
From Genbikei, take the bus to Ichinoseki Station, transfer to the Shinkansen to Morioka Station (approx. 40 mins)

 

 
Day 2
AM

 

From Morioka Station take the Shinkansen to Hachinohe Station (approx. 30 mins), and transfer to a bus to reach Hachinohe Hasshoku Centre (approx. 10 mins). Lunch and shop at Hachinohe Hasshoku Centre

Visit Hachinohe Shuzo Sake Brewery and shop for local sake Take the bus back to Hachinohe Station (approx. 10 mins), transfer to the JR Hachinohe Line for Same from Hachinohe Station to Mutsuminato Station (approx. 15 mins). Experience nature at Oirase Gorge Take the train from JR Mutsuminato Station to Hachinohe Station (approx. 15 mins), transfer to a bus to Oirase Gorge (approx. 50 mins). Stay near Oirase Gorge, Aomori
Take a bus from Oirase Gorge.

 

 
Day 3
AM

 

Visit Hirosaki Apple Park and experience picking apples Take the JR Hachinohe Line for Hachinohe from Mutsuminato Station to Hachinohe, transfer to the Shinkansen to Shin-Aomori Station, transfer to the JR Ou Line for Hirosaki to Hirosaki Station (approx. 1 hr 45 mins). Then change to a bus to Tokiwazaka Entrance bus stop (approx. 20 mins).

Take the Hakkoda Ropeway and have lunch.
Take the bus back to Hirosaki Station (approx. 20 mins) and transfer to the JR Ou Line for Aomori from Hirosaki Station to Shin-Aomori Station (approx. 40 mins). There is a bus that will bring you to the base of Hakkoda Ropeway (approx. 1 hr).
Stay at Hoshino Resorts Aomoriya
ake the bus back to Shin-Aomori Station (approx. 1 hr), transfer to the JR Ou Line for Aomori to Aomori, then take the Aoimori Railway for Hachinohe to Misawa Station (approx. 1 hr 30 mins). Take a short walk to the hotel (approx. 10 mins).

 

 
Day 4

 

Flight from Aomori Airport to your next destination.
Aomori Airport is connected to most of Japan’s major airports.
